Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts Annual State Meeting 2025

Ground Gained, Ground Lost: Reflecting on 90 Years Since Black Sunday

We are honored to gather again for our annual state meeting as we mark an extraordinary milestone in Oklahoma’s history – the 90th anniversary of the Black Sunday dust storm of 1935. This catastrophic event forever changed our state, underscoring the urgent need for conservation and land stewardship. Our meeting's theme, Ground Gained, Ground Lost, is a reflection on both the progress we’ve made in soil and water conservation and the lessons we’ve learned. As we move forward, we are reminded of the delicate balance between progress and preservation, and the ongoing work we must do to protect the land for future generations.

This year’s meeting brings together a diverse group of experts and visionaries, and we are thrilled to introduce our keynote speaker, Jason Brown, a former NFL player turned regenerative farmer. After a celebrated career on the football field, Jason transitioned to farming with a mission to heal the land and build sustainable practices that restore soil health and community. His journey is an inspiring example of how commitment to conservation can transform lives and landscapes. We are excited to hear how Jason's work in regenerative agriculture aligns with the principles of conservation and how his efforts are making a tangible difference in the fight against land degradation.

Additionally, we are pleased to welcome Christine Martin, an expert in holistic land management. Christine’s approach to conservation embraces a comprehensive view of the land, integrating ecological, economic, and social considerations.

Let’s make this year’s meeting not only a time of reflection but also a time for renewed inspiration and action.

Mark your calendars and stay tuned for our full schedule.
